Once again, our noble Iraqi people — in all their fraternal diversity and in every corner of our beloved homeland — have achieved a remarkable step forward, advancing toward greater stability, success, and the consolidation of a democratic system that truly reflects their free constitutional will and their aspiration to continue building and strengthening the institutions of the state.
With the successful organization and implementation of the sixth parliamentary elections, through their legal and executive mechanisms and in accordance with our permanent Iraqi Constitution, the government has fulfilled one of its most significant commitments outlined in its executive program. It has also upheld the constitutional timelines and necessary obligations to ensure the peaceful transfer of power, reaffirming that the authority to form the government rests with the free choices of the Iraqi people.
On this occasion, I extend my deepest appreciation, gratitude, and respect to every patriotic Iraqi citizen who participated and expressed his or her confidence in the nation’s path by casting a vote at the ballot box—believing in the challenging road of democracy, for which Iraqis have made immense sacrifices beyond measure.
My thanks also go to the legislative and judicial authorities, to our heroic armed forces in all their branches and formations, to the Independent High Electoral Commission, to the national political forces, to all popular movements, social leaders, civil society organizations, media outlets and journalists, and representatives of international organizations—for their professional dedication, participation, support, and assistance, which played a decisive role in ensuring the success of the voting process.
May God protect Iraq and its people. Mercy and eternal honor to all the martyrs of Iraq who gave their lives for democracy, freedom, and the building of our state.

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announces that a foreign journalist has been kidnapped by unknown individuals
The Ministry of Interior announced today that a foreign journalist was kidnapped this evening by unknown individuals. Specialized security forces immediately began carrying out their duties to pursue the perpetrators, based on precise intelligence information, intensive field efforts, and tracking the kidnappers’ movements. Follow-up and pursuit operations led to the encirclement of a vehicle belonging to the kidnappers, which overturned as they attempted to flee. Security forces succeeded in arresting one suspect and seizing one of the vehicles used in the crime. The Ministry confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining individuals involved, rescue the kidnapped journalist, and take the necessary legal measures against all those who participated in this criminal act, in accordance with the law. Investigations are still underway to fully uncover the circumstances of the incident, and further details will be provided later. The Ministry of Interior also reaffirmed that it will not allow any attempts to destabilize security or target foreign guests, and that its security agencies will remain vigilant and firm in pursuing outlaws and bringing them to justice.

Minister of Interior: Dismisses security leaders in Al-Mada'in sector and orders their detention following the targeting of Baghdad Airport
The Minister of Interior, Mr. Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, issued an order to open a broad investigation against a number of security leaders within the area of responsibility in Al-Mada'in, following the security breach that occurred in the sector last night. The Minister also directed the immediate dismissal of the Director of Al-Mada'in Police Department, the Director of the Intelligence Department, and the Commander of the Second Battalion of the Fourth Brigade – Federal Police, and ordered their detention pending investigation, due to their failure to perform the security duties assigned to them. He further ordered the formation of an investigative committee to determine the circumstances surrounding the launch of four rockets toward Baghdad International Airport, which were fired from within their area of responsibility, and to identify the gaps that led to this attack. Al-Shammari stressed that the security institution will not tolerate any negligence or leniency in protecting vital targets and upholding the rule of law, affirming that accountability will extend to anyone proven to be negligent in maintaining security within their assigned sectors.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, chaired the delegation of the Republic of Iraq on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the 165th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of foreign ministers, which was held virtually under the chairmanship of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Abdullatif Al Zayani. In his speech, the Foreign Minister affirmed Iraq’s commitment to respecting the national sovereignty of states and adhering to international law, in a manner that helps avoid any escalation in the region. He emphasized that Iraq will not be an arena for settling regional scores, will not be a party to any conflict, and will not allow its territory to be used to attack neighboring countries. He also clarified that the Iraqi government is committed to preserving the country’s sovereignty, strengthening its fraternal relations, and preventing any actions that could harm the security and stability of the region. He reiterated Iraq’s firm rejection of any aggression or targeting of the Arab Gulf states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, stressing that the security of brotherly Arab countries is an integral part of Iraq’s national security, and that regional stability represents a shared interest for all its peoples. In his remarks, he pointed out that the repercussions of the war have turned into widespread suffering affecting both civilian and military lives among the Iraqi people, in addition to causing damage to government institutions, service facilities, residential areas, and diplomatic premises. He also referred to the recent development involving the attack that targeted the residence of the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, in Dohuk province. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of strengthening communication with brotherly countries to support initiatives and joint efforts aimed at ending the war and returning to diplomatic solutions and political dialogue, in a way that helps reduce the damage affecting peoples and the economies of the region, and achieves security and stability for all.
