He also launched the executive works for the project to produce viral vaccines for hepatitis, influenza, and the triple vaccine (mumps, polio, and rubella), at a cost of $70 million.
Al-Sudani congratulated the opening of this plant, which is distinguished by high specifications and modern equipment from top global manufacturers, making it one of the most advanced factories in the Middle East. He pointed to its role in strengthening pharmaceutical security.
He confirmed that his second visit to this site represents a message of support for the path of localizing pharmaceutical manufacturing, which the government initiated upon its formation three years ago. He stressed the government's support for medicine producers and the private sector, describing them as true partners in achieving self-sufficiency in pharmaceuticals.
The newly inaugurated cancer drug plant will provide essential treatments for cancer patients inside Iraq. In its first phase, it will produce oral cancer treatments (tablets and capsules) for patients with gastrointestinal, lung, urinary tract, blood, and gland cancers.
The second phase will include the establishment of the injectable cancer drug manufacturing facility, planned to be completed before the end of 2026. Additionally, eight essential cancer medications have been registered, and agreements have been made on two additional substances with reputable international companies to begin local production in accordance with officially approved stages with the Ministry of Health.
